Every way to earn stock at Real Broker, and the one number Real just took off its page

The stock purchase plan and its bonus, the capping and attracting awards, the two Elite awards, vesting, and what happens to all of it if you leave.

Disclosure. I'm an agent at Real. If you join and name me as your sponsor, I get paid. Weigh what follows with that in mind.

Real is a public company (Nasdaq: REAX, now trading as Real REMAX Group after it bought RE/MAX in August 2026), and part of its pitch is that agents get stock in it. Six different ways, according to Real’s help center. Here’s each one as published, with the vesting rule that applies to all of them and the one figure I can no longer source.

I hold Real stock from some of these programs, so I’m not neutral. I’m also not going to tell you what any of it will be worth, because that’s a share price, and nobody knows.

The six programs at a glance

Program What you do What you get Vests after
Stock Purchase Plan Divert 5% of your commission (10% after cap) into Real stock Shares at market price 1 year
SPP bonus Participate in the plan above 10% bonus shares before cap, 15% after 1 year
Capping award Pay your full annual cap A fixed share count (see below) 3 years
Elite Production Award Reach Elite $12,000 in stock 3 years
Elite Cultural Award Reach Elite, then teach or host for Real Up to $8,000 in stock 3 years
Attracting shares Sponsor an agent who closes a qualifying first sale A fixed share count (see below) 3 years

Every one of these is paid as restricted stock units, and every one has the same condition attached, in Real’s words: “Agents must remain with Real through the vesting period to own the shares outright.” Leave before the date and the unvested shares go back to the company.

1 and 2. The stock purchase plan and its bonus

This is the only one you pay for. Opt in, and Real withholds 5% of your net commission on every closing and uses it to buy Real shares at the closing price on the last trading day of that month. After you cap, the withholding rises to 10%. There’s a $250 minimum before the first purchase happens, and there are annual maximums: $3,400 before the cap and $15,000 after it on a $12,000 cap plan.

The bonus is the reason people do it. For every share you buy, Real gives you extra shares free: 10% more before you cap, 15% more after. Buy 200 shares post-cap and Real adds 30.

Three rules worth knowing. It’s all or nothing per transaction, so you can’t pick which deals contribute. You can opt out any time, but you can’t opt back in until your next anniversary. And the purchased shares and the bonus shares both lock for a year.

3 and 6. The capping and attracting awards, and the number that disappeared

Pay your full cap in an anniversary year and Real grants you a block of shares. Sponsor an agent who closes their first qualifying sale (at least $2,000 in gross commission on a single sale, not a lease or a referral) and Real grants you another block. Co-sponsors get half.

Now the honest part. Real’s income page, last updated August 31, 2026, publishes these as:

$12,000 cap $6,000 cap $4,000 cap
Capping award 150 shares 75 shares 50 shares
Attracting award 75 shares 35 shares 25 shares

But on August 20, 2026, Real announced a share consolidation in which existing options and restricted share units were divided by ten. The income page wasn’t updated to say whether those award counts were divided too. And on November 6, 2026, Real’s main stock page, “How do I earn equity (stock) at Real?”, was revised to drop the share counts altogether. Both awards now carry one sentence instead:

These stock awards are subject to change as Real’s agent count grows.

So I can tell you the awards exist and how you qualify. I can’t tell you today how many shares they pay, because Real’s two pages don’t agree and the newer one declines to say. If this matters to your decision, ask Real for the current count in writing before you sign, and ask whether it’s pre- or post-consolidation.

4. The Elite Production Award

Elite is Real’s tier for its highest producers. You reach it in one of two ways, both within a single anniversary year:

  • Pay your full $12,000 cap and then another $6,000 in post-cap transaction fees. At $285 a sale that’s your 22nd post-cap closing.
  • Close $500,000 or more in gross commission and ten transactions at $1 million or above, where you received at least half the gross commission on each.

Rebates to clients come off your Elite GCI, and personal transactions don’t count.

Reach it and you get $12,000 in stock, vesting over three years, plus your post-cap transaction fee drops from $285 to $100 for the rest of the year. That $12,000 was $16,000 for agents who reached Elite before September 1, 2026. Real’s page says the program “is reviewed annually and is subject to change in the future,” which it has now demonstrated.

5. The Elite Cultural Award

Once you’re Elite you can earn up to a further $8,000 in stock by giving something back. Three routes qualify: hosting pre-approved community events, leading one of Real’s recognized divisions (Luxury or Military), or teaching in Real Academy.

The teaching route is spelled out. You can earn up to $666 a month ($8,000 over twelve) by running a 30-minute live workshop each month and getting 20 new agents to start your masterclass. Hit half the targets, earn half that month’s award. It accrues monthly and pays at year end.

What vesting means for you

Stock purchase plan shares and their bonus vest in one year. Everything else vests in three. Until the date, you can’t sell, and if you leave Real before it, the award is forfeited. The purchased shares are yours either way, since you paid for them, but they still can’t be sold until the year is up.

How long each stock award is locked

Restricted stock units vest only if you're still at Real on the date.

Shares you bought through the purchase plan stay yours if you leave, but still can't be sold until the year is up. Every award is forfeited. Source: Real help center, "How do I earn equity (stock) at Real?", updated 6 November 2026.

That’s the piece to sit with. A three-year vest on an Elite award is a three-year reason not to leave. Real would say that’s the point. I’d say it’s true and you should price it in.

What I’d want in writing

  1. The current share counts for the capping and attracting awards, and whether they reflect the August 2026 consolidation.
  2. Whether any award you’re counting on is for this anniversary year only. The Elite award just changed; the page says the others can too.
  3. How Real stock is taxed when it vests. It’s compensation. Ask your accountant, not your sponsor.

Questions people ask me

Do I have to buy stock to be at Real? No. The purchase plan is optional. The awards don’t require it.

Can my awards go to my LLC? No. Real issues all stock to the licensed individual on the reZEN account.

Where do I see my shares? In Shareworks, which Real uses to hold agent equity. Awards land there around the 15th of the month after they’re earned.

Is this a reason to join Real? On its own, no. A stock award is worth whatever the stock is worth when it vests, three years from now, and you have to still be here. Join for the economics and the tools. Treat the stock as upside.
